First Visit

Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and treatment options. Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, IV sedations, complex medical history, and other circumstances may require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.

A preoperative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. It is essential that you do not eat or drink eight hours prior to your surgery. You will also need an adult to drive you home.

During your consultation your health will be discussed. It is very important that we have a good understanding of any medical conditions that you have prior to surgery. (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) If you are currently taking any medications to include over-the-counter drugs, holistic medicines, and dietary supplements it is crucial that you inform the office and bring a list, as some of these contradict the medicne we prescribe or sedation we use.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Your surgical referral slip and any x-rays if applicable.
  • A list of medications you are presently taking.
  • If you have medical or dental insurance, bring all insurance cards and photo I.D.

 X-Rays

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office or you may hand carry them to your appointment. We require that the x-rays be no more than six months old. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.
